2026 editorial shortlist
Cards for Travel
Model points on flights, hotels, and other travel spending.
Travel cards offer some of the highest reward rates, but they also have the highest fees. Credits, lounge access, and transfer partners can offset the cost — if you travel enough.
These editorial shortlists compare published reward rates, annual fees, spending caps, and practical usage constraints. They are not personalized optimizer rankings, and affiliate relationships do not determine the ordering.

Citi Strata Premier
Citi
$95/year
3x on flights and hotels at a low $95 fee. No credits to worry about using.
Tips
"Effective fee" = annual fee minus credits you’d use anyway. The Venture X’s $395 fee drops to ~$95 after the $300 travel credit.
Transfer partners are where the real value is. Chase UR transfers to Hyatt, United, and Southwest. Amex MR transfers to ANA and Virgin Atlantic.
If you don’t fly 5+ times/year, lounge access has limited value. A lower-fee card may be better.
Portal booking (Chase Travel, Amex Travel) gets 5x but prices can be 10-20% higher than booking direct.
Complete setup
Cards selected for one category rarely make the strongest modeled overall wallet.
These editorial picks focus on travel, but the modeled combination depends on your total spending across every category. The optimizer models eligible combinations and tells you whether its result was proven optimal within that run's inputs or was the strongest valid setup found before timeout.
