How can we help?
Everything you need to know about OptimalCardSetup.
How it works
1. Enter your spending
Start with 20 major monthly inputs, then add optional exact categories only when they apply.
2. Set preferences
Choose max cards, optimization mode (travel points or cash back), point valuations, and any card exclusions.
3. Get a modeled setup with proof status
The solver searches eligible portfolios, returns a card-by-card routing guide, and labels whether optimality was proven within the run inputs or not proven before timeout.

How does the optimizer work?
OptimalCardSetup uses the OR-Tools CP-SAT constraint solver to model eligible cards, reward rates, caps, credits, and annual fees against your spending profile. When the solver proves that no better valid setup exists, the result is labeled Proven Optimal. If it reaches its time limit first, the strongest valid result found is clearly labeled Best Found. In either case, optimizer results are independent of affiliate relationships.
Is this actually free?
Yes. The core optimizer is free with up to 2 cards. Premium is offered at $79/year (the recommended plan) or $9 month-to-month and unlocks up to 10 cards, alternative setups, what-if analysis, and custom credit valuations.
What data do you collect?
We never ask for bank credentials, card numbers, Social Security numbers, or government IDs. We process the spending categories you enter to run the optimizer and store them only when needed for an active job or a scenario you choose to save. Account, billing-status, referral, feedback, and newsletter information is handled as described in our Privacy Policy; aggregate product analytics are not tied to individual identities.
Can I cancel Premium anytime?
Yes. Cancel from your account menu or the Stripe billing portal. You keep Premium access until the end of your current billing period. No cancellation fees.
Why doesn’t the optimizer include rotating category cards?
Cards like Discover it and Chase Freedom Flex change bonus categories by quarter and usually require activation. The current optimizer models eligible fixed/base earning but excludes unselected future rotating bonuses rather than assuming a calendar or activation state that you did not provide.
How should I interpret the results?
Each result states whether the solver proved it optimal or returned the strongest valid setup found within its time limit. The modeled result depends on your spending estimates, selected point valuations, and the card terms represented in the selected catalog snapshot. We update card data regularly and document important modeling limitations.
What does "transfer confidence" mean?
In travel mode, points can be more valuable when transferred to airline/hotel partners. Transfer confidence (0-100%) controls how much of that extra value the model assumes you will realize. At 100%, the estimate uses the full modeled transfer value; at 0%, it uses the cash value. If you are uncertain, compare several settings and use the result that best matches how you actually redeem points.
Why did the optimizer recommend a card with an annual fee?
The optimizer nets modeled annual fees from modeled earnings. If a card earns $400 more than a no-fee alternative and has a $95 fee, that difference is $305 before any separately valued credits. The selected objective maximizes modeled net value within the chosen catalog, assumptions, constraints, and data snapshot.
Can I exclude specific cards or issuers?
Yes. In the Preferences section, you can exclude individual cards or entire issuers. This is useful if you can’t get a card (e.g., Chase 5/24 rule) or don’t want a certain issuer.
How do I report a bug or incorrect card data?
Use the feedback form below, or email us at [email protected] with details. We take card-data reports seriously and will investigate promptly.

Credit card terms, rewards rates, and annual fees may change at any time. Always verify current terms with the card issuer before applying. We may earn a commission from affiliate links.
