Comparison brief
PayPal Debit vs. PayPal Cashback Mastercard
PayPal Debit and PayPal Cashback Mastercard are both $0-fee, PayPal-branded cards, but they're structurally different products. PayPal Debit is a debit card — it pulls from a linked bank account or PayPal balance rather than extending credit — that earns 5% on one monthly-selected category (groceries, dining, gas, transit, or apparel) up to $1,000 in spend, and 0% on everything outside that one category. PayPal Cashback Mastercard is an actual credit card that earns a flat 1.5% on every purchase plus 3% specifically at PayPal checkout, with no category to pick. PayPal also discontinued cash-out redemption for Debit's rewards points after August 1, 2026 — they're now usable only toward eligible PayPal checkout purchases, not as a cash deposit.
